CCTV
CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) is a television system whose signal is not broadcast to the public and is monitored primarily for surveillance and security purposes.
CCTV is based on the strategic placement of cameras and the private viewing of camera inputs on monitors. The system is called "closed loop" because the camera, monitor and VCR communicate over their own coaxial cable or wireless communication link. Access to data transfer is restricted by design.
Older CCTV systems used small, low-resolution black and white monitors with no interactivity. Modern CCTV displays feature high-definition color, allowing CCTV managers to zoom in on images and track something (or someone).
CCTV is commonly used for a variety of purposes, including:
- Maintain perimeter security.
- Traffic surveillance.
- Get a visual record of human activity.
