Intercom Systems

An intercom is a two-way electronic communication device with circuitry for sending and receiving voice and/or video transmissions.

The advent of cellular communications, digital telephone systems and other communication devices has reduced the use of intercoms. However, there are still many applications in which these devices perform better than others. There are a great variety of systems, defined below.

Wireless intercom:
Wireless systems are used in applications where cabling is not possible. There is a wide range of two-way wireless communication devices, including devices such as handheld radios, outdoor wireless phone booths, as well as traditional desktop devices. The range of these devices varies greatly depending on the radio technology used.

Wired intercom:
If you can run cables between sites, a wired system provides more privacy and prevents interference from neighboring systems. There are various types of cables. B. 2-wire shield or Cat-5/6 available for these systems. If you are considering a video system, wired devices may be the best solution.

Video intercom:
These usually have a unit with a camera, speakers and push buttons for the front door and an internal monitor unit that can communicate with the front door unit. Some systems may have multiple video monitors inside. Because it is difficult to transmit video wirelessly over long distances without interference, most of the devices available are wired.

Radio:
Although not strictly an intercom, there are radios that communicate with the base station intercom. Benefit from the flexibility of cellular devices to communicate over long distances and the potential of fixed intercoms.
